Overall Review: These comments are from a diehard Nvidia owner who was forced to purchase an ATI because of the x38 chipset. In the meantime I would say this is the best card on the market.

The Asus driver seems strong and I plan to get into the tweaking program one of these days. If your power supply cannot do the trick be aware there are a number of 6 to 8 pin PCI-E adapters up for auction for $1 plus shipping. I have a modular power supply so it was no problem. Be aware that the Asus requires a both a 6 and an 8 pin power plug. As for size, while the Asus is a large card, it is no larger than the 8800 GTX. The difference in gameplay with Crysis is remarkably noticable and you see things that just did not appear with the 8800 GTX. Bottom line with the ASUS 3870 X2, and a motherboard with a chipset designed for quad cores, my 3dMark06 score immediately jumped from 12,800 to 16,998, without overclocking. I replaced a 680i based Striker Extreme motherboard and an EVGA 8800 GTX. Pros: I just installed this card on a new X38 based motherboard running a QX6850. So far very happy (except for FEAR stuff.). 3dMark06 score was 16865 with stock setting just after initial installation (1,000 points better than 8800/680i). So far is totally stable and flawless with 5 hours of COD4 last night, 2560x1600 all settings maxed = solid 80s-90s FPS per FRAPS even on 40 player maps! This blows away my 8800GTX SLI/680i setup by a good 20-30 FPS.

Downloaded and installed all latest Intel and ATI drivers and bios updates. This setup installed Vista without a hitch. Current setup: Intel 6850 Quad, Intel DX38T motherboard, 2 GB Kingston DDR3 (KVR1066D3N7K2), 2x Asus 3870 X2 in CrossfireX, Raptor 150GB, X-Fi Extreme Gamer, PC Power and Cooling 1 KW Power supply, Apple 30" Cinema Display, Vista Ultimate 32 bit. Overall Review: I built this system to compare to (and replace) my 8800 GTX SLI/680i setup since the nvidia stuff was having horrible stability issues (random reboots, lockups, etc). I may be doing something wrong? Runs a bit warmer than 8800 GTX SLI/680i setup. Not any louder than my 8800GTX SLI/680i setup.Ĭons: For some reason gets *terrible* performance in FEAR benchmark. Excellent performance for 2560x1600 gaming. Goes together very easily with Intel Quad core, Intel DX38BT motherboard and 2 GB Kingston DDR3 RAM. Pros: Great performance in COD4 online multiplayer.
